Websites & web design

A website that works on every device.

Not prettier than it needs to be and not more complicated than it needs to be – but built so that it brings you enquiries and you never have to worry about breaking something.

  • From € 1,890, price agreed beforehand
  • You can change text and images yourself
  • Without a cookie banner wherever possible
  • One person to talk to, not a ticket system

Briefly explained

What “responsive” actually means

The word is in every quote and is explained nowhere. So here it is to look at: the miniature page below is one single website. It is not being made smaller – it rearranges itself.

Desktop Full width Tablet A good half Phone Barely a third

What is happening there

As the space gets tighter, the three boxes move below one another instead of side by side. The menu becomes the three lines you know from every phone. The text slides above the image instead of beside it. Nothing disappears – it is just stacked differently.

Why that is not the same as “making it smaller”

A site that is not responsive shows the desktop version in miniature on a phone. You can see everything and read nothing, have to pinch to zoom in and then push sideways. That is exactly the difference, and you only notice it on your own phone.

What you get out of it

Since 2023 Google rates the phone version only – including for results somebody sees on a desktop. If the phone version is poor, the rating is poor. There is no fallback mark for the desktop version.

What your visitor gets out of it

They can tap your phone number instead of copying it out. They find your opening hours without zooming. And they fill in a form whose fields are wide enough for a thumb. Force people to work with two fingers and you lose the ones in a hurry – which on a phone is nearly all of them.

The difference in daily life

Two websites, two very different Tuesdays

Both businesses are equally good at what they do. One of them just gets more enquiries than the other – and still does not know why.

Without

  • Somebody searches for you on their phone, lands on your site and sees tiny type. They tap back and take the next one on the list.
  • Your phone number is there, but it is not a link. Anyone who wants to call has to copy it out. Most do not.
  • You have no idea whether anyone comes by at all. There is no figure anywhere to read it from.
  • When you want to change an opening time, you write to somebody and wait. Sometimes three weeks.
  • On Google you are on the second page. Not because you are worse – but because your site does not work on a phone, and that is exactly what Google rates.

With

  • Somebody searches for you on their phone and can read straight away what you offer. No zooming, no pushing.
  • The number is a button. One tap and your phone rings.
  • You can see how many people come by and what they searched for. Not as a graveyard of charts, but as an answer to the question you actually have.
  • Changing an opening time takes two minutes and does not need me. If you want, I will still do it.
  • And when something is unclear, you call a number with a person behind it who knows your project.

The first decision

WordPress, static or a site builder?

This question gets asked first and is really the second one. The first is: how often does something change at your end, and who is going to do it? Almost everything else follows from that.

Static

No database, nothing that can be hacked, and loading times WordPress does not reach. A fit when your content rarely changes. This site here is built that way.

ab € 1,890

WordPress

When several people maintain content, when a blog is added, or a shop. More possibilities, but it needs ongoing care – updates arrive every week.

ab € 4,400

Site builder

Wix, Jimdo and the like. You already have one and want to keep it? Then we build on inside it instead of selling you a migration you do not need.

How it runs

From the first message to the finished site

So you know what you are getting into – and how much work is coming your way. The honest answer is in step two.

  1. We talk

Half an hour, free, no sales pitch. I ask you what your business does and who should be calling. After that I know whether one page is enough or eight.

  2. You supply the content

This is the part that sits with you, and the most honest point on this list: it takes longer than you think. Text, images, logo. If you do not want to write, I write – then it costs more and goes faster.

  3. I build

You get a draft to look at before anything is public. Two rounds of revisions are included, and you are allowed to say you do not like something. That is what the draft is for.

  4. We switch over

If you had a website before, every old address goes to the matching new one. Otherwise you lose exactly what you paid for over the years.

  5. You carry on

I show you how to change text and images. After that you can do it yourself – or hand it over, and I take on the care. Both are fine, neither is compulsory.

Frequent questions

What I get asked most often

Responsive means: it is one website, and it rearranges its content according to the screen size. On a desktop three boxes sit side by side, on a phone below one another. The menu becomes the three lines. Nothing is left out and nothing is shrunk – it is restacked.

The opposite is a site that shows the desktop version in miniature on a phone: everything there, nothing readable. If you have to pinch to zoom on your own site, it is not responsive.

They phone after they have seen your site – and they usually do that on a phone, often on the move and rarely at leisure. So the site decides whether anyone gets as far as calling.

On top of that: since 2023 Google rates the phone version only, including for searches made on a desktop. A site that does not work on a phone slips backwards – however good it looks on a desktop.

Yes, that is expressly the plan. Text, images, prices, opening hours – you get a walkthrough for it, and it does not take a week of training.

What I do not promise you: that you will rebuild the structure of the site. You can, but that is not what the walkthrough is for, and in practice almost nobody wants to.

A one-pager two to three weeks, a multi-page website four to six. Building it is the shorter part.

The longer part is waiting for content. Projects that drag on for months almost never fail on the technology and almost always on the copy. If you know that before we start, it is already half solved.

Not necessarily. Sometimes putting the existing site in order is enough – that is cheaper and faster, and I tell you when that is the case.

If a new one does come: every old address is redirected to the matching new one. That is not an add-on, it is the difference between a rebuild and starting again from zero.

Whatever you want. You can maintain the site yourself, and then you only hear from me when you get in touch.

Or you hand it over – then I take on updates, backups and changes. The details are on the page about website care. A contract is not a condition of my building for you.

Let us talk about what you actually need.

Half an hour, free and without a sales pitch. At the end you know what your website would cost – and whether you need it at all. I will tell you both honestly.
