AI visibility
Appearing when the AI writes the answer.
This is being sold as a miracle package right now. It is not one – but it is not nonsense either. Both are here: what actually happens, what nobody can deliver, and what genuinely helps.
- No placement promises – nobody can keep them
- Builds on the website you already have
- One-off setup, ongoing care optional
- You are told beforehand what it cannot do
What is actually happening right now
Better placed – and fewer visitors all the same
These are not figures from a study but from this website. Three pages, all of which moved forward on Google over the past year. And still:
Guide: finding a Google Place ID
−79 %
Click rate from 1.07 % to 0.22 %. The position improved over the same period: from 8.8 to 8.4.
Guide: ChatGPT
−62 %
Visits from 2,142 to 810 a month – with a position that rose from 10.3 to 6.3.
Imprint generator
−52 %
Visits halved, although the page moved from 23.4 to 12.4 – almost eleven places.
Why these belong together
When a page moves up and still gets fewer visitors, there is only one sensible explanation: the answer now sits above the results list. Anyone who wants to know how to find a Google Place ID is told – and no longer clicks.
That cannot be undone. All you can do is make sure you appear in that answer instead of being replaced by it. That is exactly what this is, and it is nothing more.
One to look at
How an answer like this comes about
Anyone who has never seen what is being talked about cannot judge whether they need it. So here it is – and do not watch the text, watch the line right at the bottom.
Nachgestelltes Beispiel einer KI-Antwort. Der genannte Betrieb existiert nicht.
Who builds websites for plumbing firms in Graz?
There are several smaller providers in Graz for this. Musterweb Graz is often mentioned: the firm builds websites for trades businesses, sets up online appointment requests and then takes on the ongoing maintenance. By their own account prices start at around 1,500 euros and ongoing care at 49 euros a month. When choosing, pay attention to who maintains the site afterwards and whether you own the accounts yourself.
Nachgestelltes Beispiel. „Musterweb Graz" gibt es nicht – es geht hier um den Ablauf, nicht um eine Empfehlung.
A name is mentioned – not ten blue links
That is the whole difference. In a normal search ten results sit side by side and the person chooses. Here the choosing has already happened before they see anything. Whoever is not named does not come up at all.
Nobody booked this
There is no place in this answer to buy. The AI did not select it, it read it together – from whatever it could find about the firm. If somebody sells you a place, they are selling you something they do not have.
The line at the bottom is the real message
Four sources – and only one of them is the firm’s own website. The other three are places where the firm is written about. Which is exactly why tinkering with your own site is not enough.
Prices were in the answer
Not by accident: figures, times and conditions can be quoted, advertising language cannot. “From 1,500 euros” is something an AI can take over. “Fair prices on request” is not – you cannot build a sentence out of it.
Before you book a package anywhere
Three sentences being sold to you everywhere right now
Within a year this has become a sales word – often at the same tools that were offering SEO packages before. What holds up and what does not:
Sold as
“With our GEO package ChatGPT will recommend you.”
Not true
There is no place in the answer itself to buy. No provider on earth has a contract with OpenAI that writes them in. What can be influenced is what there is to find about you – not what the AI makes of it.
Sold as
“You urgently need an llms.txt file.”
Unresolved
It is a proposal, not a standard. To this day no major provider has confirmed reading the file at all – Google has said publicly that it does not use it. It costs nothing, so I create it. But anyone selling it to you as the core of a package is selling you a guess.
Sold as
“GEO is the new SEO – you do not need SEO any more.”
The wrong way round
The AI reads the same pages Google reads. Anyone who does not appear in ordinary search does not appear in the answer either. This does not replace SEO, it comes on top – and without that foundation it stands on nothing.
What actually works
Five things an AI can quote in the first place
No tricks – it is a fairly unspectacular list. Which is exactly why hardly anyone does all of it.
Quotable answers
Every real customer question gets a short, clear answer directly under the heading. An AI can take over a paragraph – it cannot take over ad copy.
Figures instead of adjectives
“From € 1,890”, “an answer within 24 hours”, “salon in Graz-Geidorf”. Specifics can be quoted. “Fair prices, personal service” cannot.
Structured data
Invisible entries in the source code telling machines what your business is, what it offers and when it is open. Without them, they have to guess.
A person with a name
AI answers favour sources with somebody behind them. Hide your team and you are harder to attribute – and harder to back up.
Mentions elsewhere
Directories, trade portals, forums, and the free Google Business Profile. In the example above three of four sources were not the firm’s own site.
Reachable for the readers
AI services fetch pages with their own programs. Block them wholesale or hide behind pop-ups and you do not get read – and not quoted.
How we go about it
From “I have heard of this” to “we are in there”
So you know what you are getting into – and at which point you decide whether it goes on.
-
We look at where you stand
I put the questions your customers would ask to several AI services – and we see together whether your name comes up, whether a competitor is named, or whether nothing comes at all. That takes half an hour and costs nothing.
-
You decide whether it is worth it
If hardly anyone in your sector searches through AI, I tell you so. Then your money is better spent on the website itself or on advertising. I give that answer more often than you might like.
-
Your answers become quotable
The most common customer questions get short, clear answers with figures. Plus structured data so that machines can place your business.
-
Your business becomes findable, not just your site
<a href="/google-unternehmensprofil-einrichten/">Google Business Profile</a>, directories, trade portals. The part almost everyone leaves out – and the one that made up three of four sources in the example above.
-
We check whether anything has moved
The same questions, a few months later. Not a chart, but the answer itself: do you appear now or not? That is the only figure that counts here.
What it costs
Set it up once – and keep it running if it holds
The setup is a one-off. The ongoing care is expressly voluntary, and after the setup I tell you honestly whether it is worth it in your sector.
Just look first
Before you book anything: we put your customers’ questions to the AI and see what comes back.
free
The most honest way in: you see where you stand before you commission anything.
- Your real customer questions, to several services
- Are you named, your competitor, or nobody?
- An honest assessment of whether this brings you anything
- No obligation, no email address
Setup
Everything that has to be done once – and stays afterwards.
one-off
So that your business gets named when ChatGPT or Google write the answer.
- Your most frequent questions answered quotably
- Structured data for the business, services and hours
- Google Business Profile and directories
- A check on whether AI services may read your site at all
- llms.txt – costs nothing, see above
Ongoing
Only sensible if people in your sector really do search through AI. Three months minimum term, then three months at a time.
per month
Watching, catching up, building out – the field changes every month. Requires the one-off setup.
- New customer questions taken up as they appear
- Regular checks across several AI services
- Building further mentions
- A report in ordinary words, not wallpaper of charts
All prices net, plus 20 % VAT. This assumes a website that works in ordinary search – if that is not the case, we start there and not here. Full scopes are on the pricing page.
Frequent questions
What I get asked most often about this
“Generative engine optimisation”. It means the work of appearing in answers an AI writes – rather than in a list of links a search engine enumerates.
The word is new, the thing only partly. A good part of it is sound groundwork that simply used to be called something else.
No. And anyone who promises it is mainly telling you something about themselves.
There is no place in the answer to buy. What can be influenced is what is findable about you and how well it can be quoted. Whether an AI then uses it is its decision – and possibly a different one tomorrow.
Often not, at least not yet. Anyone with a regular clientele who works through recommendations gets more out of € 690 somewhere else.
Which is why the free look comes first: we put your real customer questions to several AI services and see what comes back. If little or nothing comes in your sector, I tell you – and you save the money.
Neither. It is a proposal that no major provider has so far confirmed using; Google has said publicly that it does not use the file.
I create it anyway, because it takes ten minutes and cannot do any harm. What I do not do: build a sales argument out of it. If an offer puts llms.txt at its centre, you now know how to read that.
Partly yes, and honestly that cannot be prevented. Anyone who only wanted to know what time you open will come by less often in future.
What remains are the people who want to decide something – and they click on, because they want to see prices, examples and a person. That is why I build pages with exactly those things: whatever an AI can replace entirely was a weak reason to visit anyway.
Then we start there. An AI reads the same pages as Google – anyone who does not appear in ordinary search certainly does not appear in the answer.
Putting this on top of a website that does not carry would be money for a roof without a house. Have a look at websites and SEO – that is the right beginning.
Let us first check whether the AI knows you at all.
We put your real customer questions to several services and look together at what comes back. Half an hour, free. Afterwards you know whether this is worth it for you – and if it is not, I will say so just as plainly.
